Wow its been a while sinced i blogged…
I recently got introduced to wordpress.com by Cherine. And to be honest it seems like a really good alternative to blogspot.com (got bored of it) and msn spaces (it stopped working properly). I’m an inconsistent blogger in some sense, i only blog when i feel like, and usually i would be far to lazy to blog. Lets start off with something light then.
Recently AHband had a barbeque at Sunplaza park. By now i can’t exactly remember when sunplaza park became a popular alternative for the band to having gatherings at. As usual, i reached and to my sheer horror to discover the fire wasn’t even started at 6.30 pm, so i decided to help out, and mr yong wei siong popped up to help as well. Not to be a spoiled-sport but seriously the juniors have to learn this by themselves, you can’t really on us forever to start simple fires lah, its not difficult. As usual, jarred was acting stubborn and irritating, insisting that i go to where i promised him that we would, that would be to go eat ramen at Miharu instead. Okay great so i had no choice but to oblige. Somehow we convinced cherine, who was not in mood for bbq, to tag along.
Yes i know, the 15 mins walk from clarke quay MRT station was rather a bad experience. But with the experience of many dozen of other friends who got addicted and would walk that distance for such good ramen (i’m talking about likes of jasper and shimin), i figured they would surely stop whining after that 15 mins or so.
So we reached the exterior of miharu, and jarred was certainly surprised and went “okay… looks authentic!” Surely you can’t go wrong when 30%< of customers are no doubt japanese nationals (the ones behind us that day were indeed nihonjin). After much irritation from jarred who insisted that he would eat the $4.50 don instead of the true-die-for ramen at miharu, he gave in and order the Miso Tsuke-men, translating to cold ramen served with hot concentrated miso-soup and ate in the likes of cold soba noodles.
Ok, the stock for miso tsuke-men was good, darn, damn good, to think Tokusen Miso (Special Blend Miso) ramen was good enough. Cherine ate Mayo-chashu don, needless to said after the first try, it was no joke.
They were shocked with the extra spring onions at $1.50 i ordered. I tell you, jasper and gang would usually add 4 additional slices of authentic japanese cha shu for $4 and probably along with 1 more stewed egg. You really cannot resist miharu after the first try. I was already being casual with simply the spring onions and ramen meal. Lol. Total cost for me was about $15 before gst. Its a good deal considering that Ajisen serves lousier ramen at the same price.
Actually, i personally think that ajisen isn’t all that bad. But definately not as good as miharu. Think about it, ajisen’s ramen has a sphagetti texture eh… lol
When we finally reached at sunplaza park again, it was 10.00 pm sharp. Could see that the band “spirit” still kept a number of band members remaining there. After we realized jeryl and weisiong had somehow gone, i grabbed 2 hotdogs and went off. Then jeryl called me and asked me in that standard accent, “Eh HALLO, WHERE YOU?!”. Then he told me he went cycling with weisiong and the other bunch. That was when i was on bus 81 going back to hougang. Hah, doesn’t matter, we’ll probably meet again sometime way too soon before we know it.
Jarred is having a new plan, he wants to enter Phil-youth all of a sudden. Well god knows why. I guess after the players like wong-rong left, no bassoons were left hanging to that ever so popular wind band. Well, its not a cheap instrument and the characteristics would fall under unexpectable, difficult to play in tune, and not so fantastically enjoyable tone by beginners. Ahah, you see, its a double-reed instrument. And name me one double reed that sounds nice when played by a beginner.
Most fall into the category of never being able to sound anything appreciably pleasant by the public… for example, suona.
Btw it seems that Elizabeth has taken on the “curse” of braces. Well, its not a curse to average everyday individual who desire a slightly more charming smile, but certainly a curse and a source of pain and torment for a brass instrument player.
A little something about PAYCO, short for People’s association youth Chinese Orchestra. I just did a concert with them, Beautiful Sunday series, sounds too familiar doesn’t it. For those who did not attend, we played some interesting highlights: Super Mario Brothers theme, Jewel in the Place (dae jang geum), Blue Danude, Sabre Dance, Theme on Carmen the musical, Impression on Tai Hang and one more Raffle’s related piece. Ah, you see, there was only 1 chinese piece. Making it a torture for suonas when it comes to chromatic fingers! Imagine sabre dance with suonas playing the main melody. Some madness there.
I guess thats all for now, being a musically related individual, i’ll talk alot about music, but certainly, ramen, activism and other interesting thoughts will be apparent across my post. So stay tuned, especially these couple of weeks ahead!
See you soon.
